Getting an office

A couple of weeks ago, my father informed me of the availability of a wonderfully located, terrifically maintained office for rent.

For a couple of months now, I’ve been planning to establish a place for the team to regularly work at instead of fighting for tables at SMU or using hackerspace facilities.

After seeing the office, I went home, fired up Excel and started crunching the numbers.

It was a scary experience seeing the savings slowly deplete in the tiny boxes.  And since I’ve been working as a software engineer for the last 4 years and not some professional in the finance industry, the savings depleted fast.

Taking the office is a big leap of faith that something would result from all this ship building.

The process of getting an office is an interesting one.  There are so many things to look out for that it would have been helpful to have a checklist for a first timer like me.

The process of getting an office is also an extremely fun one.  We got to do IKEA shopping (budget lah, so cannot go to more atas furniture stores).

Seeing the furniture, and then visualizing the space we would be working at, there’s something about the process that stirs the heart and strengthens the resolve.
